In Character Information
Name: Mahiro Yasaka
Series: Haiyore! Nyaruko-san
Canon Standing: Let’s go post-canon. I may change this after talking things out with potential castmates.
Age: 17
Birthday & Astrology Sign: Let's say Scorpio because it looks like a fork and it's 1 AM. October 26.
Arcana: The Hierophant. Mahiro is conservative, tries to stick to the rules as well as the circumstances will let him, and his relationship with divinity (or deities, at least), while uneasy, is... substantial.

Personality: 'I want to live a quiet life.' The words of a true tsukkomi. Mahiro is the only sane person in his universe.

In a world filled with deity hunters and a steadily increasing supply of eldritch horrors beyond human comprehension, he happens to stand out due to the fact that he’s a completely average high school student (fun activity: CTRL + F ‘average’ the app post!). If there is any way that he deviates from the norm, it would certainly be his love for H. P. Lovecraft’s C’thulhu Mythos (to the point of having pictures of the authors around his house), of which he will tolerate absolutely no badmouthing of. Come on. Try.

Perhaps this could be taken as the reason for much of his derision towards other characters. Being a healthy teenage boy, of course Mahiro’s not completely immune to many of the antics Nyaruko tries to pull off, but he’s read enough Lovecraft to know that when the Black Pharaoh puts on the George Michael, you get the hell out of dodge. That aside, when he does develop affection, it comes with a healthy dose of blushing and stuttering. Such is life in Japan.

Despite this love for depressing existential stories, however, Mahiro is fiercely protective of the semblance of normality there is in his daily life. He does his very best to stay out of trouble, as well as anything (or anyone (Nyaruko)) who is likely to cause it.

This is not to say he shies away from violence. At all. Piss Mahiro off, you get the fork. Invade his personal space, you get the fork. Catch him while he’s feeling particularly irritated, get ready fo sum fork. (He stabs people with forks, by the way). In all seriousness, this is unlikely to come up around normal people, but any Lovecraft abominations who decide to get too close to him may as well be super-powered electromagnets. His short temper may extend to his words as well, in the sense that he tends to be overly blunt or make it clear to people that something wouldn't have happened if it weren't for their actions.

This leaves us with Mahiro’s disturbing habit of always keeping a contingency plan. He will never be short an aforementioned fork. He hides them. All over the world (his house). Also keeps one on his person at all times. This penchant for pronged utensils is hereditary, and if you ask me to elaborate on the genetics of that, I’ll walk. Other evidence of his habit for planning involves recording conversations that could turn incriminating. It’s almost sick. Now I know why I’m playing him.

He does, however, show a sensitive side from time to time. Upon realizing just how fragile Nyaruko is, he makes a resolution to not be as cold to her, able to empathize and realize that she only has his… mostly has his… potentially has his best interests in mind. He's also fairly social, actually having human friends and clearly caring what his classmates think of him. He also has flawless manners when dealing with strangers, and is more than willing to help them out. However, he makes it clear that he has a streak of introversion, recharging just by laying around sleeping. Guess which side of his makes for better ratings has more emphasis?

He's nothing if not adaptable, though. Despite the very, very awkward things his friends (?) say, he's able to keep a calm head through most of it (whenever the aforementioned aggressiveness doesn't happen). He settles with information about his family he doesn't know fairly quickly, as well.

I know you have something to do with this! If you're hiding somewhere, you can just keep doing tha--

[Mahiro's eyes open wide as he realizes that his rant coincided perfectly with the realization that the comm even exists. So this is how it feels.]

O-Oh. Is anyone listening? I'm not exactly sure where I am, so would anyone be able to help me? I came here through...

[Crazy masked men and dream/hallucinations? Better go with something else.]

Train. I think I got off at the wrong spot.

3rd Person | Prose Example

Madness.

Really the only cause, product of, and word to describe the situation at hand. Now, having the entire collection of Howard Phillip Lovecraft burst out of your nightmares for little reason other than to profess their undying love for you? Bad. Unbelievably so. But being brought into an entirely new world, given superpowers centered on controlling one of your favorite literary characters and getting taken away from the aforementioned eldritch gods?

. . .

N-Not quite as bad, actually. Regardless, Mahiro Yasaka had friends and family back home. He couldn't stay here. Besides, he could very well be in more danger here than back home. Yes, he had his weapon with him right now, but he could certainly live with not getting into another fight.

Mahiro doesn't even feel compelled to finish his breakfast. Leaving it half-finished, he proceeds to wash dishes and utensils in the sink. Before long, all of them find their way inside a kitchen drawer. All but one.
